i realized while watching da vinci code how hard of a job it would have been to make this movie. forget the expectations, those were huge indeed. but all the exposition of the book and the way it flows is not really conducive to a fine film. so, given that degree of difficulty, i thought the movie was not too bad. we got what we expected, but nothing more.it's hard to say how it would have been watching it without having read the book. i would presume that the movie would have been better then since some of the suspense could have remained intact.

from what I've been told by those who haven't read the book, the movie was quite good.
although I only know of three or four people who haven't read the book... but three of them liked it. the fourth is lorie, and she hasn't read or watched it...
